There's a compatibility chart and if anyone has the chance to upgrade, do that. I tried to go from Windows Vista Home Premium on my XPS M1330 to Windows 7 Professional N but got a handful of driver errors compatibility issues. With that, and because there are no designated drivers for the XPS series (yet?), upgrading might be the better road. Quick note on compatibility: For those with XPS M1330 Vista Home Premium, upgrade option is available to go to Windows 7 Home Premium, Beta Version, and Ultimate but not Professional. Windows 7 even messed up my drivers for my CD/DVD-RW so having.iso files, a flash drive with current drivers, and a hard drive are good to have should anything go south.
I'm sharing this because this has happened to me. As for Dell, they probably will release Windows 7 drivers since that's now the default OS for their new laptops.
I can bet they will throw XPS into the list, one driver can be compatible over many models. Drivers that may be affected in the Windows 7 transfer could be: fingerprint scanner, touchpad, wireless, CD/DVD-RW, and maybe the nVidia driver. This is off the top of my head the problems I had when I went to 7 Professional N then back to Vista. The current Vista drivers are good enough to get you through the interim period before the new Windows 7 come. Where can I find makers for my hardware so I can manually download the drivers for them? There are any number of FREE 'SysInfo' programs available which can tell you everything about your system. Just Google something like 'System Info Program?'
